Alright, I’m generally not too much of an extensive writer or someone who tries to make lengthy political points but this really made me think about some things:

As the race for the White House is heating up I’ve been trying to absorb as much about each candidate as I can. And when it comes to left or right, conservative or liberal, I’ve really been split right down the line on this. Keeping myself educated about the issue is important to me because an intelligent voter is a responsible voter. While reading a variety of political blogs and websites today, I came across an article published by the “Huffington Post” from famed feminist Naomi Wolf, author of the bestseller, “Give Me Liberty”.

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/naomi-wolf/the-battle-plan-ii-sarah_b_128393.html

She brutally and maliciously, verbally bashed Republican VP candidate Sara Palin with degrading, sexist remarks. Here are a few excerpts:

“Reports confirmed my suspicions: Palin, not McCain, is the FrankenBarbie of the Rove-Cheney cabal.”

“I saw that she was even styled by the same skillful stylist (neutral lipstick, matte makeup, dark colors) who turned Katharine Harris from a mall rat into a stateswoman and who styles all the women in the Bush orbit –but who does not bother to style Cindy McCain”

“Please understand what you are looking at when you look at Sarah “Evita” Palin. You are looking at the designated muse of the coming American police state.”

What’s wrong with this picture folks? Is this just freedom of speech or hypocrisy at its finest? I’m trying to think back to what being a feminist really means.Granted, I’m not a feminist by any means but the last definition I heard involved something about recognizing and celebrating the achievements of women everywhere who defy social norms, break through glass ceilings and achieve feats beyond traditional male dominated social scripts. That was my own interpretation by the way, if you want to correct me, please do so.

A quiz question for you:
If John McCain would have called Hillary Clinton a “FrankenBarbie”, do you think he’d still be running for president? NO! Because not only would every feminist have destroyed him, but he would have lost credibility from myself and the American people and he will go down in history as the Sexist who tried to be president.

I think Ms. Wolf missed some important facts here that regardless of her political affiliation, personal, religious or moral beliefs: Sara Palin was a PTA President, a City Council Member, A Mayor, A Governor, An Entrepreneur, a Wife who can manage to keep a marriage stable and a MOTHER of five! How extraordinary is that?

Warning: never wrap your iPod earphones in a little ball in order to store them. They’ll never come back from that shape! I have to keep them in therapy with regular stretching sessions.

I’ve taken a sip of that Kool-Aid that friends and the web community has been passing around the table; so far, tasty but we’ll see how long the hype lasts.  I think the concept of putting ones material out for viewing has been a consistent desire in all of history but it’s just been made easier and more convienient for people to become heard, voices loud and clear and present.

I’ve been thinking about peer pressure and how it’s everywhere!  You often think of this pressure as only existing between the ages of 11 and 21, but does it really end there?  I’ve had more pressure in my life in the past 2 years to affect the next 50.  Is it any more significant than the decisions we make as kids, probably not; it’s all proportional when you really think about it.  When you decide to take that first drink of liquor or beer or smoke a joint, that’s a big deal folks and I have a feeling that around the corner, there will be more where that came from.
